Coordinated
Efforts for Long-range Success
As California public schools struggle through this difficult time, we’re
interested in stimulating new thinking about the provision of visual and
performing arts education. As we push for quality, equity and access for
every student in California, what can we do today to help bring the arts
to more kids?
This week, our blog features a fresh
perspective from Mark Slavkin, Vice President for Education at the Music
Center. Mark suggests that now is the time for a shared delivery model,
in which teachers and community arts organizations collaborate in a coordinated
way to address the gap in arts education in our schools. His observation
is that, too often, arts organizations view their work either as charity
or as a solo endeavor. Mark’s point of view is provocative, pragmatic
and enlightening. Please consider visiting the blog to share your own
opinion. We’re particularly eager to hear how you think a shared delivery
model might happen, and how arts organizations can coordinate their efforts.
