Reinvigorating Arts Education in California Schools: What’s the story?
A story has the potential to lift the listener to a new experience, a better understanding, a deeper appreciation. As arts education advocates of California, we have compelling stories to tell. With the distribution of ongoing state funding to school districts across California, it is our goal to inform others of the impact this investment has on the lives of students and to also share the leadership efforts underway geared at strengthening support and service to schools and districts.

On April 21-22, 2007, the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) and California Alliance for Arts Education will co-sponsor the leadership in arts education conference Reinvigorating Arts Education in California schools:  What’s the story?” to share the important work being done at the state, regional, county, and local levels to improve the quality of arts education, and to encourage your participation and leadership in telling the stories that will shape the future of arts education in California.

The focus of the conference will be:

Conference Highlights:
Join us in opening the conference with keynote speaker, Randy Nelson, Dean of Pixar University, which provides training and education for all of Pixar¹s employees. Pixar University promotes leadership through shared ideas, advancing skill development, and taking risks – all vital ingredients to Pixar's commitment to innovation. Pixar is the successful animation studio responsible for "Toy Story" "Bug's Life" and "Finding Nemo." Randy is one of the founding members of the juggling group, the Flying Karamazov Brothers.

Hear from policymakers and decision makers regarding arts education policy. Celebrate with a performance from the Cultural Heritage Choir, a Grammy nominated, percussion-driven, vocal ensemble whose mission is to help perserve and share the rich musical traditions of African-American roots music connected to West African and Caribbean origins.

Participate in a wide variety of engaging sessions that showcase discipline-specific and integrated arts instruction and receive new resources for strengthening and expanding K-12 arts education in school districts. Plus, learn about how to advocate for arts education in your community and examine how arts leaders are approaching planning, curriculum, professional and curriculum development.
