Launch of the Sacramento Alliance for Arts Education

On December 12, the Sacramento Alliance for Arts Education will host a breakfast meeting to gather parents, teachers, business leaders, arts organization and elected officials to build support for arts education as an essential component of a quality education in Sacramento publics schools schools.

The event is hosted by:
The California Alliance for Arts Education
Jonathan Raymond, Superintendent, Sacramento City Unified School District

Mark Friedman, President, Fulcrum Property

Lial Jones, Mort and Marcy Friedman Director, Crocker Art Museum

Jay Schenirer, Member, San Francisco City Council
Background: In 2006, California received historic block grant funding for the arts in public schools. Yet in recent years state legislators have allowed local districts to spend arts education block grant funds on whatever they deem essential because of the state’s budget crisis. Since that time many districts have cut or moved to eliminate arts and music programs. For this reason, the California Alliance for Arts Education has begun to build a statewide network of local advocacy coalitions. These local alliances are pro-actively responding to local and statewide arts education issues.
