March 2013 Declared Arts Education Month in OC; Proposed Statewide

On February 14th, the Orange County Board of Education declared March 2013 as Arts Education Month in Orange County.  The declaration recognizes that arts education is an essential part of basic education for all students K-12; that students derive many benefits from arts education; that arts education is part of California's education policy; and encourages communities to celebrate the arts.

There is a current proposal for a similar declaration statewide.  The California Alliance for Arts Education and the California State PTA are sponsoring ACR 12, a concurrent resolution honoring March as Arts Education Month. The resolution will be heard in the coming weeks in the Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism & Internet MediaCommittee before passing on to the Assembly floor. Why not celebrate Arts Education Month by seeing a local arts performance?  Check out our school district's elementary, middle, and high school students as they sing, dance, act, play their instruments, and display their visual artworks.  Los Al is close to a number of other community, college, and professional productions as well.  (Click on "Events" to see arts listings.)  Keep arts alive and thriving in Los Al and nourish your own need for creativity at the same time!
