February started with the concerts for All District Band and All District Orchestra. Our high school, middle schools, and elementary school groups played to enthusiastic audiences. The 7th annual Creative Edge Lecture by neuroscientist and musician Charles Limb, noted TED speaker for “Your Brain on Improv”, takes place March 14. Dr Limb studies how the brain works during musical improvisation by looking at MRIs of jazz and rap musicians. He will be joined by the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA Ensemble. March 17 is the Los Alamitos PTA Council Reflections Gallery – “ Let Your Imagination Fly”. The following students were top-rated in their respective divisions at each school, and advanced to the next level of judging. Eight received awards at Fourth District PTA, as noted. The Award of Excellence entry will advance to the CA state level of competition. Congratulations to all of the Reflections participants!
