February started with the concerts for All District Band and All District Orchestra. Our high school, middle schools, and elementary school groups played to enthusiastic audiences.  You can see video clips of these, as well as some recent elementary grade performances, on the Alliance facebook page link below.  The All District Choral Festival will be March 7  at  6:30pm at Cottonwood.  Ticket info at losal.seatyourself/biz .  
 
California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) presents “Arts Education Strategies in California LCAP” free webinar  onTuesday, February 23 at 3pm.  Register at artsed411.org.
 
The 7th annual Creative Edge Lecture by neuroscientist and musician Charles Limb, noted TED speaker for “Your Brain on Improv”, takes place March 14.  Dr Limb studies how the brain works during musical improvisation by looking at MRIs of jazz and rap musicians.  He will be joined by the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA Ensemble.  The lecture is presented by Arts OC,  in partnership with 4th District PTA, OC Dept of Education, and Segerstrom Center.  Register at artsOC.org  -  early bird pricing through Feb.
 
March 17 is the Los Alamitos PTA Council Reflections Gallery – “ Let Your Imagination Fly”.   The following students were top-rated in their respective divisions at each school, and advanced to the next level of judging.  Eight received awards at Fourth District PTA,  as noted. The Award of Excellence entry will advance to the CA state level of competition.  Congratulations to all of the Reflections participants!

Literature:  Abigail Yee (Weaver) – 4th District Award of Excellence; Taylor Donato (McGaugh), Chelsea Brazier (Oak), Simon Martin (LAHS) – 4th District Honorable Mention.
Music Composition:  Tayla Wu (Weaver), Aleena Kang (Weaver), Stephen Kelman (McAuliffe), Liam Watts (LAHS)

Visual Art:  Duy Dang (Weaver) – 4th District Award of Merit;  Jaime Nguyen (Hopkinson), Miranda Kreal (Oak) – 4th District Honorable Mention; Angela Nguyen (LAHS) – 4th District Award of Merit.
